Unfortunately, the situation is not improving; it is rather stagnating. It has now been five years since our project in Yemen began. During this time, we have witnessed the lives of the children who rely on our charitable kitchen. Unfortunately, their situation has not improved much. The only thing that has changed is their age—they have grown five years older, yet their living conditions remain almost the same.
Most of these children do not attend school. Instead of receiving an education, they help support their families, often single mothers. The children who were very young when the project started have now reached an age where they must find ways to bring home even the smallest amount of food. Some walk the streets, begging for money or a piece of bread. Older children sell water at traffic lights, wash cars, or help clean houses. Even after a full day of work—such as washing dishes—they barely earn $10 per month.
Only a small percentage of children have the opportunity to attend public school. Some of them perform very well and hold on to hopes of a better future. Yet, we often see that even these children eventually follow the same path—ending up on the streets, selling small items or begging to survive.
For ten years now, Yemen has been facing an unbearable crisis that has robbed these children of their childhood. They cannot play, climb trees, or simply enjoy carefree moments. Instead, they are burdened with the responsibility of ensuring their family’s survival. They know nothing else.
We are trying to break this vicious cycle, even if only in small ways. We deeply appreciate everyone who supports us and helps give these children a chance at a better future. Every contribution makes a difference.
